A little bit about Dr. Covarrubias
Hello. My name is Dr. Amanda Covarrubias. I attended Texas A&M University Kingsville for my bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and my master's degree in Early Childhood Education. I attended Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi where I graduated with an educational doctorate in Educational Leadership. I have my Gifted and Talented endorsement. My teaching philosophy focuses on the environment, relationships, expectations, and adaptability and professionalism of the teacher. The classroom should provide opportunities for students to learn through practical learning scenarios. As a teacher, I should serve as a facilitator of learning, allowing for communication and exchanges of ideas to occur. Students should feel safe and respected, allowing them to feel welcome in sharing their ideas. This is fostered through the relationships cultivated between students and the teacher. I strive to cultivate a respectful, trustful, empathetic, and collaborative space where students can learn and develop the necessary skills to be lifelong learners and positive members of society. I set high expectations for students, communicating the belief in students’ potential for growth and success. I aim to inspire and support students to reach high levels of success. This requires adaptability on my end. Adaptability is necessary for effective teaching that is relevant and dynamic to students. Lastly, I must always model professionalism in order to foster a learning environment built on respect, integrity, and dedication to the highest standards of educational excellence. I serve as the advisor for the National Elementary Honor Society chapter here at San Pedro Fine Arts Academy. I was the recipient of the Edgar L. Morphet Dissertation of the Year award in 2024.
